The pigeon peas season in Tanzania commences in the northern region of Bariadi and progresses to Morogoro, Dodoma, and Singida, before moving to the southern regions of Mtwara, Lindi, and finally concluding in Manyara (Babatti) and Arusha. This widespread cultivation enables Tanzania to produce a substantial quantity of pigeon peas, making it a significant player in the trade.

Pigeon peas are a staple in Indian cuisine, especially in southern India, and are renowned for their high nutritional value. Here are some key benefits:
